Very cool 8ft Tall Hand Painted vintage prohibition policeman sign.
Originally hung in the infamous J. Sloans bar on Melrose Ave in West Hollywood.
Patrons used to touch the right knee for luck as they walked by. Great piece of Hollywood history.
Open from 1919 Frequently seen in movie and television scenes, J. Sloans was known as the longest continuously operating bar in Southern California and was a favorite for generations of Hollywood stars. Customers such as Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy frequented the place in the 1940s and ’50s. More recently, actors Dennis Quaid, George Clooney and Matt Dillon relaxed there.
A large theme-bar company, Grand American Fair, owned it from about 1970 to 1995. It was renamed J. Sloans and decorated with such things as antique harnesses and a sleigh hanging from the rafters. An aging, steam-driven pipe organ taken from the Bijou Theater in Plattsburgh, N.Y., was installed above its bar.
The place had an eclectic look all its own with a mishmash of memorabilia ranging from classic Hollywood to random bar decor. There were old license plates that adorned each step on the wooden staircase leading to the upstairs game room, a collage of Playboy magazine centerfolds in the men’s room and a carriage randomly hanging from the ceiling.
This cop sign was another piece of the decor.
Wonderful folk art piece on old wood.
Would look cool hung on a wall as art. Interior or Exterior.
Perfect for your home, loft or as part of a store display.
