At the very least, this is the exact same model of dining set used in the Brady Bunch. At the very most, it is the actual set from the show!
Compare the photos and you will see that this is the same model of table and chairs used in the show.
I have some circumstantial evidence suggests it may be the actual set, and you are welcome to continue trying to solve the case, or you may just enjoy having an iconic dining set to enjoy in your midcentury home.
None of the pieces are labelled, however I found a side table in is the exact same design as the table and it was made by American of Martinsville.
A solid walnut oval table and 6 chairs. Interestingly enough, there are no head-of-the-table (Mike and Carol) chairs, only 6 regular chairs (which would accommodate the kids, of course).
The table has a double-pedestal base, and the top has a birds-eye maple border and carved medallions along the edges.
The high-back dining chairs are solid walnut with birds-eye maple inserts across the top, curved backs, jute panels and brass finials on the corners. The chair seats were recovered 5 years ago, however I still have the original rust colored corduroy seat upholstery (included in the sale) and am including photos of the chairs while they still had the original seats.
The table measures 44" wide x 64 1/2" length, and there are 3 leaves, measuring 12" each. Table height is 29.5"
Included are two original table pads — one for the table at its smallest size and one for the table with all the leaves in place.
Chairs measure 21" w x 18.5" deep x 18.5" high. Chair backs are 42.5" high.
Despite being in continuous use for almost 50 years, this set is in very good condition (solid walnut is pretty indestructible). There are some minor scuffs on the chair legs, one chair has minor scuffs on the jute, and on all chairs the brass finials are tarnished.
THE CRAZY BACKGROUND:
I have traced the ownership of this dining set back to January of 1975, less than a year after the Brady Bunch ended, when it was acquired by someone who was a longtime friend of show creator Sherwood Schwarz. Also, the same dining set appeared in several episodes of Mannix (also produced at Paramount) in 1969, before it was adopted by the Bradys. I worked with an archivist at Paramount who discovered that they actually have all the Brady furniture in storage, EXCEPT the dining set is mysteriously missing. This may be it. If the buyer wants, I will gladly share all in the info I have and they can pick up the mystery.
Long distance buyers must arrange for their own crating and freight shipping, I will gladly coordinate my schedule to accommodate pickup.
Have a sunshine day!
