WHAT A FIND! This stunning PYREX rarity will be a welcome addition to any Pyrex collection! Produced for only a short time in the late 1920’s it is a small miracle that it has survived 90 years with its lid!!! It is in good condition for its age showing normal signs of wear but no chips or cracks on either the lid or the pitcher. The interior does have some cloudiness on it that runs up and down the optic lines. I have not tried any harsh chemicals to remove it, but I have scrubbed it with soap and water and they do not come off — they are light colored and get lost in the ribbed optic effect but are there up on close inspection and have proven impossible for me to capture in photographs. The lid does not have any cloudiness. If you already own a pitcher that has no lid or a damaged lid, this would be a great piece to buy to replace your damaged lid!
This extremely rare piece of PYREX does have some typical factory flaw mold roughness on the inside lip along the lid, as well as tiny bubbles and small impurities in the glass. There are a few typical factory straw marks and very very light scratches on the pitcher body, commonly seen with this glassware of this age that has been used. The base shows expected normal wear and the acid etched mark on the base of the pitcher is difficult to see or photograph but it is marked. It stands 8 1/2" tall, and with lid in place it measures approx 10" tall to the top of finial on the lid. The bulbous circumference measures approx 21" around and width across including the applied handle is approx 9" wide. The pitcher comfortably holds 80 ounces filled to the shoulder. It could hold a bit more, but it would then be overfilled. The lid is embossed on the inside and reads: “PYREX MADE IN USA”. (see photo close-up) The underside of the base is acid-etched with the early PYREX acid etched mark but it is faint and difficult to photograph.
