for sale is a beautifully restored vintage industrial cast iron drafting table by Frederick Post.
from the Journal of the Oughtred Society:
“the Frederick Post Company was founded in Chicago in the latter part of the 1890s to manufacture and sell drafting, engineering and surveying supplies and equipment. Post was successful in this endeavor and became the third largest supplier of such equipment (after Keuffel & Esser and Dietzgen) in the United States.”
the design is a classic of the early 20th century, featuring cast iron arched legs with “The Frederick Post Co., Chicago San Francisco” on them — that’s back when they still used to go to the trouble of stamping out the maker’s label on the arched legs.
wood handled cast iron wheel turns to easily adjust height. cleverly engineered so that height stays without any latches, allowing for one handed adjusting. tilt also adjusts.
table has been completely restored. cast iron base was stripped and cleaned of old paint. top scraped, sanded and covered in several layers of teak oil, then buffed smoothed, making it food-grade type of safe.
measurements, in inches:
height – adjusts from 32 1/5 up to 46
top – 60 wide by 37 1/8 deep
base – 34 wide by 24 deep
