Oh, the mid-aughts…when casting a real pig as a piggy bank was something cool & new. This one, cast by NYC artist and product designer Harry Allen for AREAWARE, is a great way to save money—not only because I have priced it under market value (new they sell for $150.00 to 260.00 depending on where you buy it) but it also holds.your.coins so you can SAVE. Save!
18" long; 10" tall; 5.5" deep, and has a cork stopper to keep your money from escaping to buy things you don’t need. A great thing to have near the place you empty your doc kets so you can simply add the change each time you change pants. Just saying.
This is a new bank, never used, leftover from a home design shop in Williamsburg that closed. They were big sellers but this one was in the stock room when the shop closed.
Harry Allen is a well known designer and if you don’t know his work you should google him. The pig, likely to go out of production soon, or may already be, is a soon-to-be rare collectible, I guarantee it. Hold only it for a few years and you will find out I am not wrong about it. It’s very of the period, and before you know it some film production designer will include it in a kid’s bedroom scene about the early 2000s. The NYC kid whose dressing savvy fashion forward parents who shopped at MOSS thought it was cool to have a pink pig on hand to learn how to save money.
Located in Bed-Stuy, but I could meet you at my studio in Williamsburg for a pass off.
