KNOLL Aluminum Arm Chairs Hannah Morrison 1971 MCM Palm Springs Modern (2) Classic 1970s modern KNOLL velvet upholstered Bruce Hannah & Andrew Morrison model 2011 powder coated cast aluminum arm chairs (1971) ready to pimp out your living room or office. Perfect for an airy Palm Springs Modern living room or den. Up for sale is a pair (2) matching, in cotton velvet upholstery. The sling seat is suspended by the lightweight cast aluminum frame, and the comfort level is a 10. I’m not sure this is the original upholstery, but it well done and looks great as-is. Re-upholstery would be easy if you aren’t into the velvet. This series chair design is not widely known, and is not longer in production, but I bet it will be again soon. It it was a breakout bestseller when it launched in 1971, known for its space age optimism and versatility, and was used widely in residential & contract interiors. Both chairs have the Knoll tag on the underside. The frames are in very good to excellent condition with minor wear consistent with age; there are a few minor surface abrasions and scratches, but mostly on the bottoms where the chair meets the floor. The fabric has one blemish, a small spot in the crease of the fabric on one chair. Honestly, it’s not that noticeable in person. These chairs were well cared for, from a smoke and pet free home in New Canaan, and come to you ready to use in your mid century interior. Measurements : 26” width; 30” overall depth front of frame to back rest; 28-1/2” back height On Bruce Hannah from the Knoll website: “From the time of his graduation from Pratt Institute in 1963, Bruce Hannah made a career of understanding and exploiting modern technology and materials to create efficient, practical products. Design, as defined by Hannah, is first and foremost problem solving. Hannah found a philosophical and creative partner in Andrew Morrison, with whom he introduced several innovative products for Knoll in the 1970s. Exploring the possible applications of aluminum in modern furniture, the pair introduced a lounge seating system in 1971, a related line of tables one year later, and a collection of office chairs in 1974. In 1976, Hannah established his own office which, among many other designs, produced the Hannah Desk System for Knoll — chosen by the Industrial Designers Society of America as a ‘Design of the Decade’ in 1990. The innovative design employed storage “pedestals” to support the desktop, a concept which eliminated the need for a frame, increasing flexibility and reducing cost. Hannah joined the faculty at his alma mater, Pratt, in 1993, where he still teaches today.” These chairs are located in Somers, NY (1 hour north of NYC only 5 mins off of I-684 at Goldens Bridge).
