Original Knoll Bertoia fiberglass bar height stools. Known as the Model 427, the fiberglass version of Harry Bertoia's iconic wire chairs had a very limited production in the mid 1960's. That means a pair like this is extremely rare. You will not likely have another chance to acquire these.
These bar height chairs retain their original Knoll labels on the underside and are dated 1964, which, I believe, was the year that they were released.
These were very well made by Knoll. The fiberglass is smooth and the solid rod iron frames are solid and heavy. All original feet. These stools are in excellent condition. There does not appear to have been any attempts to "restore" them over these many years. All of the feet still have their plastic undersides intact. (see photo) I can find only one flaw and that is a small chip to the underside of one corner of the seat. (see photo) This chip is not detectable from the top of the seat. Other than that, the black paint on the base is worn in some areas and the fiberglass has some discoloration, but this is just "minor wear consistent with age." These stools will last forever.
