"Barn and Farmscape" by Adelaide Werger
This framed and matted watercolor farmscape scene dates to 1984. It measures 12 1/4" wide by 6 1/2" high. On the back is an inscription to the previous owner from his wife dating to Christmas 1984. It is in extremely fine condition. On the reverse side of the painting is a partial landscape study.
Adelaide Riel Werger (1921-2004) was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. She graduated from the American School of Design (NYC). After her marriage in 1940 she resided and opened an art studio in Ramsey, NJ.
She was a president of the Community Art Association (Allendale, NJ) and Watercolor Affiliates of the Art Center of Northern New Jersey (New Milford, NJ).
She had many one woman shows throughout New Jersey including Ringwood Manor West Gallery and the Gallery at Lord & Taylor. She exhibited in the Jersey City Museum, Newark Museum, Trenton State Museum and the Bergen Community Museum. She won more than 100 awards, including several best in shows. Her paintings are on permanent display in national and international private collections.
Her professional memberships include the Salmagundi Club (NYC), life membership at the American Artist Professional League (NYC), The National Art League (NYC), New Jersey Watercolor Society, Southern Vermont Art Association (Manchester, VT), Chaffee Arts Center (Rutland, VT), West River Artists (New Haven, CT), .
She was the mother of the artist and master printmaker Arthur L Werger (1955- , NJ, GA, OH).
She relocated to East Ruppert, Vermont in 1985.
