1960's 'Vallauris', French Cheese Serving Platter

This is a very rare 1960's, majolica glazed, vintage, mid century modern cheese serving platter with a swirly metal handle, which can be unscrewed for ease of storage or transportation.
It is clearly marked ‘Vallauris’ on the glazed underside.
The perfect gift for French cheese lovers. Why not give this platter as a gift to your dinner host/hostess along with some French cheeses and a bottle of Bordeaux wine..........Perfection!................
It measures 38cms/ 15" x 27cms/ 10½" (at its widest points) and weighs 1kg/ 2.2lbs.
The small scenic town of Vallauris is in the Alpes-Maritimes department of the Provence-Alpes -Côte d'Azur region of South-Eastern France.
It became world famous when Picasso lived there in the 1940's and 1950's and Majolica from Vallauris is celebrated for its beautiful glazes and extraordinary shapes.
This platter has been hand-painted in an expressive mid-century modern, highly textured design that typically characterizes the region’s pottery.
The warm, brown, base glaze of this plate has been overlaid with a gorgeous mixture of green, red and creamy caramel 'foam' that mingles with the surrounding glaze.
It is shaped as a leaf, with a 'ridged' central stem and pronounced 'veins' that are incredibly tactile and alluring. The fluted edge glazed lighter to add depth and movement. It has been finished with a Holly leaf and berries sitting at the stem, giving it a slightly festive 'feel'.
It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks, it has two microscopic 'nicks' at the edge which are not noticeable at normal viewing distance, and in no way detract from the beauty or quality of this wonderful item.
There cannot be a more stylish way to serve your cheese course at dinner parties than on a beautiful piece of Vintage Vallauris Pottery! ..............We love it!.................
