Eclectic, mid century modern, vintage textiles, prints with great graphics, useful things.
Antique 1800's oil painting portrait of Victorian businessman with mustache, signed by Charles Washington Wright.
Charles Washington Wright (1824 - 1869) worked in New York and the District of Columbia primarily as a medalist and wood engraver. Wright’s painting, Benjamin Franklin, The Fireman, is on display at The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.
His son, Charles Lennox Wright I, was considered one of America's most distinguished illustrators. Grandson Charles Lennox Wright II was well-known for his landscapes.
The painting is not framed. The canvas has a few small marks near the edges where the original frame would have been attached. Very minor paint loss or craquelure for a painting almost 150 years old.
