Jean Prouve Artisan Wood Dining Utility Table
$1,600 or Best Offer
Heavily inspired and influenced by great Modernist design of the 20th Century — movements such as Constructivism, de Stijl and the Bauhaus; and designer/makers such as Gerrit Rietveld, Jean Prouve and Rudolf Schindler — REDUX Industry specializes in the creation and hand fabrication of furniture and other useful objects (industria), seeking to reinvent classic, simple forms rich in function, utility and durability.
Based in San Antonio, TX, we make prominent usage of reclaimed, found materials in our work because, while transforming the discarded into something functional and valuable requires additional imagination, creativity and time, we find it incredibly satisfying to bring new life to what was otherwise heading to the landfill.
Since everything we make is 100 percent handmade and we seek to uncover the ideosyncrasies of individual materials and sometimes must substitute sizes, no two items will ever leave our shop in copycat fashion.
Expect to touch the history of the material and the craftsman’s hand in a multitude of ways — for example, distressed, aged wood with light subsurface paint, occasional sanding marks and graceful natural edges; plus, honest, raw steel exhibiting welds, splatter, burn marks — and most of all, rust. (All carbon steel will eventually rust, regardless of applied finish, even paint!)
Please note that, due to the unsteady supply of salvaged materials, many of our items are created in limited editions and once they’re gone, their gone!
REDUX Industry also contemplates and creates custom projects with discerning clients.

Reviving Jean Prouve atelier’s brilliant mid-century industrial design, the 1950 Utility Table is artisan-constructed -- by hand in the US -- of salvaged, vintage Long-leaf Pine.
Featuring aerodynamic lines, minimalist joinery, and a sleek profile, this table easily serves multiple purposes -- from dining to working to display to conferencing.
The material -- Long-leaf Pine, a now endangered species once abundantly found in the Southern US Pine Forests -- is a beautiful, solid and long-lived species, with an almost hardwood density and weight. This particular specimen was salvaged from a 1930s San Antonio, Texas neighborhood.
Super-stable despite its delicate minimalism, the table is constructed so that the low-profile surface suspends above an intelligently-designed welded metal brace-work structure that binds the svelte, geometric legs, also made of solid Long-leaf Pine.
Finally, all surfaces are finished with multiple coats of hand-rubbed, non-toxic Tried and True brand Varnish Oil (boiled linseed oil). The finish applied in many multiple, thin coats that cure over weeks, creating a soft, satiny finish, enhancing the wood's patina and durability.
The table pictured measures 50" long. Actual table ordered may vary from one depicted, as all wood exhibits unique characteristics.
This custom table is available by Special Order. Please allow 8-10 weeks for custom items to ship. It is also available in aniline-dyed Black, also with Varnish finish.
Can be easily disassembled with common tools, if need be, for moving and/or storage.
The table is also available in other sizes, up to 80".
