Tiggy & Pip is a vintage home décor shop by mother and son décor and interior design loving duo, Tiggy and Pip Coudray.
With a shared love of all things French and vintage we opened our shop in 2011.
Based in France, between Cognac and La Rochelle, we source unusual items from recent French and European history. Everyday French household items from the 1880's to 1980's which, although at one time were plentiful, are now increasingly rare and collectible. We source specialist props for films/photo shoots and interior designers. Many of our 'finds' are currently on display in a number of top New York restaurants and Hollywood apartments.
This is a stunning set of six antique French books in faded blue tones. They are 'aged to perfection' and will give you an instant 'old library' effect and give your bookshelves added French chic!
They look lovely tied up with twine and displayed on a coffee table, sideboard, mantelpiece, bedside table or dresser. The covers have faded with time to subtle, dusky blues and the pages are yellowed with age, with age spots.
This 'blue' book bundle is made up of French, antiquarian school books, very collectible and increasingly hard to find. They are in genuine vintage condition, as you can see from the photos. They have been held and read by many, many people who have 'thumbed through' them, studied them, ear marked pages, loved, lost and cherished them and they have finally ended up here - looking for a new home and a new adventure. They have also gathered a few pencil marks and names inside the covers over the years. I've left them exactly as I found them because they're authentic.
Most importantly they have that 'old book smell' reminiscent of libraries and bookshops from a by-gone era - fabulously comforting.
The six books are all hard cover editions, they are distressed from years of genuine use and some of the pages are delicate and loose:
The titles are:
Petit Dictionnaire de la Langue Française - G. Beleze (circa 1850 edition.) An A-Z of the French language with an added 'Petit Dictionnaire, Historique et Géographique' at the back of the book. The last pages of this book have some ink staining but are still readable.
Cours Pratique d'Arthmétique, de Système Métrique et de Geométrie, Cours Moyen - A. Minet et L. Patin (1904 edition.) This book is packed full of mathematical equations, exercises in mental arithmetic, fractions, calculations and fabulous old diagrams and illustrations of angles, spheres and cones.
Cours de Grammaire Française, Theorie et Applications - E. Laporte (circa 1880 edition.) Studies of French grammar, vocabulary and verb conjugation.
La Deuxième Année D'Allemand - G. Halbwachs & F. Weber (1926 edition.) An amazing book, full of language exercises, analysis and verb conjugations and vocabulary in German.
Morceaux Choisis des Auteurs Français, du Xe au XXe Siècle - J. Calvert (1933 edition.) This is a gorgeous looking book containing a selection of works by French authors from the 10th to the 20th Century. All of France's most famous writers are here, such as Voltaire, Molière, Ronsard, Rabelais, Montaigne, Boileau, Balzac, Corneille and Racine to name but a few!
Histoire de France et Notions d'Histoire Générale - J. Gros et D. Moustier (circa 1911 edition.) This book has a wonderful cover and is a comprehensive guide to French history from Prehistoric times through to the 3rd Republic.
If you wish to display the books in a bundle/stack with string (like the photos) then you would need a minimum space of 16cms/6¼" high x 20.5cms/ 8" long x 14cms/ 5½" deep.
They weigh 2.5kgs/ 5.5lbs.
