Vintage Rattan Wheat Sheaf Dining Table
Rattan wheat sheaf base comes with detached, original, thick, oval, beveled glass top. The top measures 59 1/2” long, 42” wide and 1/4” thick. Sheaved bamboo construction.
1stdibs and Charish are currently offering this table for $2,995 (https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/tables/dining-room-tables/vintage-mcguire-oval-rattan-dining-table-sheaf-wheat-style-glass-top/id-f_7370743/). (Just checked and it since sold!) That site says it is from 1990, but other sites say the table is from the 1970’s. All I know is that it is vintage. This one is unmarked.
Super fun, different type of table. The buyer will not have the same West Elm, CB2, Ikea, etc. table as everyone else. Would look great with some vintage bamboo chairs.
The glass is in great shape--no cracks or chips (unlike the one for sale above for $3,000!). The rattan base has some discoloration around much of the bottom. It also has some scratches on the bamboo on one side and someone lightly spattered some white paint low on the base. The base was reinforced from the under inside a few decades ago and the bottom piece of wood covering the interior of the base is missing.
Today, it stands sound. I would add some spacers between the rattan and glass top as the glass is setting directly on the base.
The bamboo looks just beautiful under the glass. I need to sell this one fast because it is really growing on me as the table is super cheery and so unusual. The glass makes a small space appear larger.
I have no idea the weight, I made it up as "unknown" was not an option in filling out the posting form.
One with a dark brown base and no glass, and no braiding of the center piece is on ebay for $1,675. The base on this one, despite its flaws, is much prettier nonetheless than the darker version and the gorgeous original glass makes this piece.
Pick up/view in Los Angeles (Eagle Rock).
