Tiggy & Pip is a vintage home décor shop by mother and son décor and interior design loving duo, Tiggy and Pip Coudray.
With a shared love of all things French and vintage we opened our shop in 2011.
Based in France, between Cognac and La Rochelle, we source unusual items from recent French and European history. Everyday French household items from the 1880's to 1980's which, although at one time were plentiful, are now increasingly rare and collectible. We source specialist props for films/photo shoots and interior designers. Many of our 'finds' are currently on display in a number of top New York restaurants and Hollywood apartments.
This is a stunning set of five antique French books in faded caramel/brown tones. They are 'aged to perfection' and will give you an instant 'old library' effect and your bookshelves added French chic!
They look lovely tied up with twine and displayed on a coffee table, sideboard, mantelpiece, bedside table or dresser. The covers have faded with time to subtle, dusky tones and the pages are yellowed with age, with age spots. They can be used as photo and film props, as well as table centrepieces for boho weddings and shabby chic displays.
The five books are hardcover editions, distressed from years of genuine use and some of the pages are delicate:
The titles are:
Anatomie et Physiologie, Animales et Végétales - E. Caustier (1920 edition.) A fascinating book packed full of anatomical diagrams and illustrations. It covers the dissection of plants and animals, plant reproduction and evolution. The anatomy of the human body, and everything from the function of our organs to the digestive system and our senses. Once you pick this book up it is impossible to put down again!
Lexicologie Elémentaire - R. Pessonneaux et F.-E. Postel (1925 edition.) When I found this book, in an antiquarian book shop in Angoulême, it had an old handwritten postcard (dated 15th July 1927) tucked inside the pages. Somehow taking it out doesn't feel right, so I've left it inside, as it is part of this books history. I hope you enjoy seeing and reading this little snippet of history as much as I did.
Pages Choisis des Grands Ecrivains - J. Michelet (1906 edition.) Some of France's most famous correspondence is studied in this book, with letters from writers such as Rabelais, Voltaire and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. This book also contains historical accounts of major events such as Jean d' Arc's interrogation at Orleans and events leading up to the French Revolution, surrounding Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette.
Morceaux Choisis des Auteurs Français, Classes Supérieurs, Prose - Albert Cahen (1900 edition.) This book contains writings from all of Frances most famous authors from the 16th century to the 19th century. There are works by Montaigne, Balzac, Descartes, Molière, Racine, Diderot, Victor Hugo, Alfred de Musset and many, many more.
Chefs D'Oeuvres de la Collection de Auteurs Latins - N. Nisard (1848 edition.) This 171 year old book has the most gorgeous cover with the words 'Athénée Royal de Tournay' embossed into the front.
If you wish to display the books in a flat bundle/stack with string then you would need a minimum space of 15.5cms/ 6" high x 18cms/ 7" long x 12cms/ 4 ¾" deep.
They weigh 2kgs/ 4.4lbs.
