Tiggy & Pip is a vintage home décor shop by mother and son décor and interior design loving duo, Tiggy and Pip Coudray. With a shared love of all things French and vintage we opened our shop in 2011. Based in France, between Cognac and La Rochelle, we source unusual items from recent French and European history. Everyday French household items from the 1880's to 1980's which, although at one time were plentiful, are now increasingly rare and collectible. We source specialist props for films/photo shoots and interior designers. Many of our 'finds' are currently on display in a number of top New York restaurants and Hollywood apartments.

Description

This is a set of twenty two volumes of Voltaire's 'Correspondance'. These books are from the 'Oeuvres Completes de Voltaire', published between 1825 - 1832. Voltaire's complete works or "Oeuvres Completes" consisted of 100 volumes. This listing is for twenty two volumes of Voltaire's 'Correspondance', all in French text, and dated between M DCCC XXV (1825) and M DCCC XXXII (1832.) Almost 200 years old these books are very rare and collectible, they have leather spines and marbleised cardboard covers. The patina on these books is amazing. They are 'aged to perfection' and will give you an instant 'old library' effect and add an extra 'French chic' to your collection! These twenty two books are in genuine antique condition, as you can see from the photos, the spines are delicate and have sustained some damage. The pages have 'age spots' and edge discoloration which adds to their charm and authenticity. I've left them exactly as I found them because they're authentic. They need to be handled with respect for their age and condition. The books are all completely readable, with no loose pages. Voltaire (21 November 1694 – 30 May 1778) was a French Enlightenment writer, historian, and philosopher famous for his wit. He was a critic of Christianity, especially the Roman Catholic Church. He advocated freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and separation of church and state. A versatile and prolific writer, producing works in almost every literary form. Voltaire’s correspondence has been called his masterpiece, but he did not systematically keep copies of the letters he sent and seldom kept those he received. In a sense, it was his first posthumous editors who, in assembling 4,500 letters, ‘created’ his correspondence. Voltaire engaged in an enormous amount of private correspondence during his life, totalling over 20,000 letters. These books contain some of the first 4,500 of Voltaire's letters to be catalogued. They include letters to people like Catherine the Great, Frederick II, King of Prussia, Le Duc de Richelieu, Le Marquis d'Argenson and Le Comte d'Argental to name but a few! The 'Correspondance' volumes are as follows: Volume 68 (Tome I), Volume 69 (Tome 2), Volume 70 (Tome 3), Volume 71 (Tome 4), Volume 73 (Tome 6), Volume 74 (Tome 7), Volume 77 (Tome 10), Volume 78 (Tome 11), Volume 79 (Tome 12), Volume 81 (Tome 14), Volume 82 (Tome 15), Volume 86 (Tome 16), Volume 84 (Tome 17), Volume 85 (Tome 18), Volume 86 (Tome 19), Volume 87 (Tome 20), Volume 88 (Tome 21), Volume 89 (Tome 22), Volume 90 (Tome 23), Volume 91 (Tome 24), Volume 93 (Tome 26), Volume 94 (Tome 27). Each book measures 21cms/ 8¼" high x 13cms/ 5" wide x 3cms/ 1¼" deep. Altogether they weigh 12.2 kgs / 26.9 lbs and measure 65cms / 2 feet 2" long.
