This is a framed and linen lined oil on Belgium coastal scene. It measures 46 7/8" long by 23" wide. It seems to date from the 1960's. It has a 3" repaired rip midpainting that has been patched with linen, acid free glue and gesso and carefully inpainted/matched with quality oil paints. Otherwise in fine condition. Some paint loss on antique gold frame, retouched and filled with gold leaf paint.
Guido Odierna (1913-1991) was born in Capri, Italy, where he lived and died. In the late 1920's and early 1930's he studied at the Royal Academy under Cavalier Michele Federico (1884-1966). Later he studied in the studio of Konstantin Ivanovich Gorbatov (1876-1945).
During the Summer he had a studio at 19 Via Certosa in Capri. During the Winter he maintained a studio and gallery at 24 Via Ezio in Rome.
In his career of over 40 years he had more than 35 solo exhibitions (Rome, Milan, Turin, Genoa, Biella, Vercelli, Catania, Trieste). He also had group exhibits in France and the United States. In his first American group show (at the 1959 Virginia Beach (VA) Art Festival) all but seven of his thirty paintings were sold.
He is known mainly for his landscapes, seascapes and harbor scenes, many of Capri; although he also painted the waters and environs around Naples and the Amalfi Coast, Florence, Rome, as well as areas farther north (such as Venice, Trieste and Chioggia).
His paintings reflect a deep love and appreciation of nature and the natural world.
He is listed Davenports, Artprice, Askart, Artfact, Artnet and Findartinfo.
