Tiggy & Pip is a vintage home décor shop by mother and son décor and interior design loving duo, Tiggy and Pip Coudray.
With a shared love of all things French and vintage we opened our shop in 2011.
Based in France, between Cognac and La Rochelle, we source unusual items from recent French and European history. Everyday French household items from the 1880's to 1980's which, although at one time were plentiful, are now increasingly rare and collectible. We source specialist props for films/photo shoots and interior designers. Many of our 'finds' are currently on display in a number of top New York restaurants and Hollywood apartments.

This is a stunning set of five vintage French books in faded creamy white tones. They are 'aged to perfection' and will give you an instant 'old library' effect. There are works here by some of France's most famous writers, such as philosopher Jean Paul Sartre and writers, Victor Hugo and François Rabelais to give your bookshelves added French chic!
The five books are all paperback editions, distressed from years of genuine use, and some of the pages are delicate and loose:
The titles are:
Victor Hugo - Les Contemplations, Tome II. (1964 edition.). Victor Hugo (26 February 1802 – 22 May 1885) was a French poet, novelist, and dramatist of the Romantic movement. Hugo is considered to be one of the greatest and best-known French writers. This book contains part of his 'Les Contemplations' collection of poetry, first published in 1856.
Les Mots - Jean Paul Sartre (1964 edition.) Jean Paul Sartre (21 June 1905 – 15 April 1980) was a French philosopher, playwright, novelist, political activist, biographer, and literary critic. This book 'The words' is Jean-Paul Sartre's famous autobiography of his first ten years, written in 1963. It has been widely compared to Rousseau's Confessions. Written when he was fifty-nine years old, 'The Words' is a masterpiece of self-analysis.
Les Textes Grecs, Classes de Première et de Philosophie - R. M. Guastalia (1955 edition.) This book is a study guide packed full of famous Greek classic literature, such as 'The Iliad' by Homer, 'Antigone' and 'Oedipus Rex' by Sophocles and writings by Plato, Aristotle and Demosthenes to name but a few!
Histoire des Français, Tome I - Pierre Gaxotte (1951 edition.) This is a fabulous book of the complete history of France and the French, from prehistoric times, through the Gauls, the crusades, the 100 years war and Jean of Arc to 1558.
Oeuvres Complètes de Rabelais, Le Quart Livre (1959 edition.) François Rabelais (1483 – 1553) was a French Renaissance writer, physician, Renaissance humanist, monk and Greek scholar. This is the fourth book of Pantagruel, from 1552.
To display them altogether you will need a minimum space of 11cms/ 4¼" high x 20cms/ 7¾" long x 14cms/ 5½" deep.
They weigh 1.6kgs/ 3.5lbs.
The books in this book bundle are in genuine vintage condition, as you can see from the photos. Some of the pages and covers are slightly loose. One or two of the books have their first few pages uncut - they have been like this since publication - and are all the more charming for it. They have also gathered a few pencil marks, and names inside the front covers, over the years. I've left them exactly as I found them because they're authentic.
Most importantly they have that 'old book smell' reminiscent of libraries and bookshops from a by-gone era - fabulously comforting.
