"The Changing Room"
by Lorie Balistocky
mixed media on paper
This stunning modern drawing/collage, by local artist Lorie Balistocky, is beautifully framed in a pink-painted wooden frame under glass, shadowbox style, and is ready to hang.
The work is signed and dated by the artist at the lower left: "L. Balistocky '90" (see last pic).
The title gives this semi-abstract still life an allegorical feel. What is being changed in this room? There are two statue-like truncated mannequins to the sides. There is a partial frame (or mirror?) in the back. Are those photos or fabric swatches pinned on the left wall? Is that a bed in the corner? What kind of stand is the mannequin on the right on? Is it an anvil? And is that a fool's/joker's mask hanging from the hat stand next to it? This piece is as thought-provoking as it is beautiful.
CONDITION: The frame has some bumps and wear, and the dust paper on the back is torn (see pics), but the art itself is in excellent condition.
The glass (or plexiglass?) comes up to the front edge of the frame (shadowbox style). The bright dots, streaks and grid pattern in the photos are actually reflections of the facing wall or other photo artifacts. I have included photos shot at different angles to help you distinguish the art from the artifacts.
There is a label on the back with the title, the original price ($600) and the artist's contact information. (I have cropped the latter for privacy reasons.)
The size, including the frame, is 23" X 29".
