First Edition Eames Rope Edge Fiberglass Chair
GMR Finds and Design
Just an Eames obsessed guy who likes old and unique pieces. I find discarded treasures and give them new life. This varies from refinishing originals or transforming amazing finds into functional pieces.
First edition rope edge fiberglass SAX (Standard Armchair X-base) by Charles and Ray Eames for Zenith Plastics from 1950 to 1959. This is the first generation of the iconic fiberglass shell chair manufactured by Zenith Plastics and distributed by Herman Miller. It features a greige color and rope edge detailing that surrounds the entire shell perimeter. The x-base is original and the original Zenith checkerboard label is in tact.
This original mid century chair is a must for collectors and those who respect solid authentic pieces over cheap knockoffs. They only increase in value and sell for upwards of $4,000 without the original base.
**Note: The color looks off due to poor lighting. It's shown on a reproduction rocking base for staging purposes only- the original X-base comes with the chair.
