This decorated clay vase has a wonderful bohemian quality. The vase stands 7.25" tall and is approximately 5" diameter at its widest point. There are no maker's markings on the vase.
The material, pattern, and characteristics/qualities of the vase lead us to believe the piece was made no later than the 1960's, and it could be much older. In our research we have not been able to find anything similar to this style of decoration.
The shape makes us inclined to believe that perhaps is was made in Mexico, intended to be a Cantanito, (a clay material jug used for water). Perhaps its origin is Tonala, Mexico? It appears that this shape and glaze color was also used by Native American potters in the Southwest.
Condition: The vase is in good condition for its age, with some signs or wear. There are no cracks, and no chips on the rim. The glazing on the rim is a bit worn. There are a few small (less than 1/8") chipped areas on the glazing on the outside of the pot.
