French Dress Form, Paris Department Store
French dress form on adjustable wooden stand in original black paint. From Paris department store, early 20th century. Her shapely bodice shows the light staining and minor tears from her lively, fashionable life. The eyes of Paris upon her and the latest couture she modeled season after season. Light staining, a few tears in her skin. Minor dings in the wooden stand adding to the patina of use and wear. We refer to these imperfections of age as character qualities.
We nicknamed her "Lady Cicatrix" for the scar on her right shoulder. In an earlier iteration, we imagine she fought beside the King's musketeers, taking her share of scars in action to protect the crown. At size 42, she could wield a rapier with gusto. But never got the recognition. Most of her noble peers relegated to serving tea in bone china cups in lavish drawing rooms.
