These great sculptural mid-century (1970's) velvet & brass chairs are a bit of a mystery. Finding the same chair, sans the semi-circular arms is not a problem. Most attribute them to Pierre Cardin for Contemporary Shells, Inc. I found a few that claimed them to be by Arthur Umanoff for Contemporary Shells. Although Umanoff is documented as designing for Contemporary Shells, I'm skeptical that he designed these, and am leaning more towards Cardin. I just can't find any examples with the arms. Prototypes, perhaps??? The velvet is in very good condition, with very minor blemishes, but does have overall sunlight fading. The brass has overall scuffs and scratches.
