LeRoy Neiman was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, De Paul University, and the University of Illinois. He taught at the Art Institute of Chicago's school for ten years before moving to NYC in 1963. He created illustrations for Playboy, Sports Illustrated, Harpers and dozens of other magazines. Neiman was among the best-known artists in America, and had a never ending string of commissions. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the world, including the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. and the Hermitage in Leningrad. "Classic Marathon Finish” depicts the 1983 New York City (NYC) Marathon, with male (Rod Dixon, New Zealand) and female (Grete Waitz, Norway) winners both shown with their winning times. In excellent condition, signed and numbered (309/350). Unframed.  From the estate of a collector in Palm Springs, California. One small bit of foxing to the left of the image.
