In 1917, famous inventor Thomas A. Edison purchased the company (founded in New London, Wisconsin) and changed its name to Edison Wood Products, Inc. and began producing wooden phonograph cabinets for the Edison phonograph. The depression that followed World War I caused a rapid decline in the industry. Considered a luxury item, sales of phonographs declined, and with the advent of the radio the company began looking for other products to manufacture. In 1929 the company introduced infant furniture, which would later become known as the Little Folks brand in 1937. The company is now Simmons Kids Furniture.
