Gloss Lacquer Regency Style Faux Bamboo Cabinet
$925 or Best Offer
This is a wonderful Mid-Century Hollywood Regency Faux Bamboo cabinet that can be used as a bookcase, curio or china cabinet or as a wardrobe or armoire. I am a designer and hunted this piece down from a dealer in Palm Beach and had it freshly lacquered about 5 years ago. The color is a deep dark blue in high gloss that can have some purple undertones in some light. The interior was done in a bright gray. Right after delivery we had a few compromises to the newly lacquered finish due to abrupt changes in temperature from FL to NYC. I had a painter touch up the areas. There is a difference in paint color due to different formulas in the paints used. In natural light, I honestly do not notice the issue. It does show up more dramatically in the pictures.
The upper portion of the cabinet has glass doors and 2 fixed interior shelves. The glass inserts for the shelves are removable for safe transport. Additionally there is a hidden light in this part of the cabinet for showing off your display pieces. This cabinet has acted as wardrobe storage for the last 5 years so the light has not been used. It worked when purchased and I assume still works just fine.
The lower portion of the cabinet has solid doors to tuck away the less attractive things. There is one fixed shelf. This time it is wood and not glass. The brass hardware is original to the piece.
This is a classic design from the Hollywood Regency style. I believe the cabinet may have been sold to me as a Thomasville piece but I don't see any obvious label when I gave it a quick look over. Regency is a great style, but one that is hard to come by in NYC...a rare find. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions or send along more pictures. Thank you!
