Pair of Bentwood Chairs with Embossed Seats
Midcentury, deco and handmade items.
An amazing relic from the early 1900's, this pair of antique Thonet bistro chairs have stood the test of time. The chairs are constructed of solid bentwood with an embossed wooden seat. Each chair has Thonet marked on their underside and some serial numbers that we think include a date of 1904 (an identical set of chairs was dated 1905 when we searched). The embossed design is similar to those made in Austria (scroll and floral motiff), but there is no country indicated on this set.
Chairs in good to very good vintage condition. The chairs have a time-worn patina and since they are antique, we did not want to alter them (we did give them a little bit of polish). The seats lift up a little but are sturdy. And on one leg, there is a piece of wood that is lifted up and chipped. Could be fixed, but again, wanted to keep in found condition. All in all, a wonderful pair that has stood the test of time and withstood a wonderful aged glow.
Approximate measures: 17" diameter (seat), 19" seat height, 35" to back of the chair.
