Vintage Bentwood Rocking Chair
Beautiful example of the bentwood chair pioneered by Michael Thonet in the mid-1800s. The rocker has a bent hardwood frame finished in a warm walnut color. What is particular about this chair is that the back support is formed with a full scroll, while many chairs have only a simple loop. The seat and back are fitted with traditional cane that has mellowed to a golden brown. Chair was acquired in the Georgetown section of Washington, DC, in the early 1970s and has been well cared for. Excellent vintage condition. The graceful, sinuous bentwood design is timeless and works just as well with traditional as modern decor.
