Extraordinary Vintage Eickholt Pulled Feather Vase

Posted on Sun Aug 05 2018

It's virtually impossible to accurately describe this incredible work of hand blown, studio art glass vessel by the 20C American Modern master glass artist, Robert Eickholt. The description & accompanying listing images fall short of properly representing this piece. While certainly informed by & inflected with Art Nouveau form & technique, this is 20C mastery of its own genre & singular presence. As with much of Robert Eickholt's art glass, first look is one thing, but transformational character of the glass resonates depth of artistry & relationship w/color & light. which suggest that this vase is simply-'alive'. The pulled feather patterning & shape of this form is a progression of Eickholt's earlier 'King Tut'. The curves flow with transformative iridescence- reflecting violet, cobalt, verdant green and luminous earth metals. Light traveling through this piece reveals an amber body, seamlessly 'gilded' throughout with a shifting aurene cloak. This is an Eickholt masterpiece; a 20C American Art Glass geek's piece. Condition is excellent. Hand signed by the artist & dated 1997 on the underside. I haven't seen another Eickholt as compelling & exciting as this; No filters. Dimensions: H 8" x W 3.5/8" at rim x W 4" at shoulder(widest) x W 2" pontil edges of base
