Italian Five Light Polychrome Chandelier Early to Mid 20th Century
This is an elegant, decorative Italian gilded polychrome or giltwood wooden and toleware Florentine five arm chandelier. The metal scrolling arms with carved wooden bobeche drip pans, issuing from a black and gold elaborately carved bulbous baluster central column with carved gilded embellishments. There are some lovely metal (gilded brass?) flower decorations sprouting between each of the arms.
It was converted to a plug in swag chandelier (probably around 40 years ago) by splicing the wires. It still works, though I would definitely get it rewired to be safe. It includes the original ceiling medallion plate, along with some extra chain so could easily be converted back to be hardwired into a ceiling.
My family is the original and only owner of this light fixture. It’s in remarkable original, well-loved condition, with just minimal wear consistent with age and use. There are some small chips in the polychrome paint and the brass could use a deep cleaning. Please let me know if you’d like to see additional photos.
It’s of good useable size and proportions, with the approximate dimensions being:
26” High (excluding chain and rose ceiling medallion)
