Description

an original vintage 1950s 60s Mid century Moroccan Berber rug this beautiful Beni Mguild/ Beni Ourain hand knotted ivory white wool rug has an abstract diamond shaped pattern with different shades of brown , with fringe on two sides. feels warm , soft and thick. this will be an amazing addition to any mid century modern decor and it could also work very well as a tapestry on the wall. label: S.A.F.T Rabat French Morocco, hand knotted in Morocco, 100 % wool as the label mentions French Morocco, that means the rug dates from around 1956, as at that time Rabat was under French protectorate. in excellent vintage condition, no flaws to mention. with the original labels on the back (brown rug is also available in a separate listing) measurements: length: 5 feet wide: 3 feet heavy rug, over 9 lbs. Moroccan rug: Appreciation of the spontaneous and bold character of Moroccan Berber carpets began in the 1920s and 30s with classical modern architects such as Le Corbusier, Alvar Aalto or Marcel Breuer who integrated them into their interiors and promoted them in important presentations and the interiors shops of the period. Traditionally, Moroccan tribal weavings were made exclusively by women and solely for personal use. Dense pile rugs served not only as floor coverings but as mattresses, seating and even blankets in the winter months. Each woman weaves the story of her life into the rugs. They are filled with symbolism and vary greatly depending on the locale where they were woven. Beni Ourain are easily known by their classic patterning and regional palette of simple diamonds. The motif produces elegant and harmonious rhythms that capture and move the eye over the entirety of the rug. Of the Moroccan styles, the Beni Beni Ourain is the most well suited for a modern minimalist chic aesthetic. itemnumber: 5352
