Rosenthal Studio Line "Suomi Kastanienbraun" 1979

Posted on Mon May 14 2018

Extremely rare 52 piece set of Rosenthal Studio Line's "Suomi" Collection which was released prior to the occasion of Rosenthal's 100 year anniversary (1879-1979). This collection was designed by the world renowned Finnish designer Timo Sarpaneva and includes his signature. It was released in numerous colors (white on white, silver, gold, blue, etc...). However, the iconic kastanienbraun (chestnut brown) was only in production for a short while in the period between 1980-1982. A single piece of the chestnut collection is valued at over 200-400 dollars. Iconic postmodern, Japanese aesthetic, gorgeous, dainty handles on the tea cups and a square / circle hybrid shape for the plates. Rosenthal’s long-established and highly successful “Suomi” porcelain pattern, designed by the Finnish designer Timo Sarpaneva (1926-2006) in 1976, represents a milestone in the company’s Studio-Line history. “Suomi” embodies Rosenthal’s standards for excellence and authenticity in modern design. It takes its inspiration from the natural charm of smooth river pebbles. The organic moulding, between circle and square, has been awarded the highest honor conferred in the world of porcelain: the Gold Medal of Faenza.
