12 Antique A.F. Lydon British Fish prints, Framed
$600 or Best Offer
Set of 12 framed and matted prints from “British Freshwater Fishes” by naturalist, Rev. William Houghton, in matching wood frames with dark green mats. Attractive, detailed, subtly colored. Each depicts a different fish, some with variant sub-species, sometimes at different life stages, shown against their natural habitat. Precise edition unknown (published approximately 1879).
These lend themselves to an attractive and distinguished presentation mounted on the wall in 2 rows of 6, for example in a dining room.
Condition: definite foxing and some edge discoloration on all; some more noticeably than others. Colors are gently faded (note: they appear more vibrant in the photos than in actuality). These were framed and matted in France 20-30 years ago. The masking tape on the backing is loose on a few edges, but other than that, the frames (including the glass) are in very good condition.
Frames - each is 17" wide by 14" high.
Mat opening - 12" wide x 8-3/4" high.
