We are 2 women that restore historic homes and buy, restore and sell Mid Century Modern furniture and accessories.
A beautiful Mid Century bedroom set by United Furniture from the late 1950's. We are clearancing it at half price due to some imperfections in the finish. The maple finish is proprietary, meaning it is original to the manufacturer and cannot be duplicated. You really cannot "touch up" proprietary finishes, however these pieces we don't feel warrant a full refinish as the imperfections are relatively minor.
The dresser / credenza has 9 drawers that are dovetailed, extremely clean and slide with no issues. There are areas in the finish that are lighter than others, specifically where a mirror sat on the back right top, around the drawer handles, and a few other areas on the front. They are minor. It has dings on the front left corner - see pic, and 3 dime size darker discolorations on the top - see all pics. This is a heavy dresser with solid wood construction, Atomic Era lines, and long tapered legs with brass capped feet. Overall we consider this to be a 6.5 out of 10 with 10 being perfect condition.
The bookcase bed is full size (or can be used as a queen with queen converter rails). It has 2 dime size discolorations - 1 on the top right and 1 inside the bookcase area. The footboard has chips on both corners - see pic. Overall we consider the bed a 6 out of 10. Both pieces have minor scratches as expected from age/use.
This set is beautiful, all original, clean and very functional. It can be used as-is for many more years.

Unlike most Mid Century dealers, we go over every inch of our pieces before they leave our showroom. Wood pieces undergo a 5 step restoration process to clean, nourish, remove scuffing/paint, hydrate, and bring out the original finish. All joints are tightened, drawers are cleaned, missing hardware replaced, and all metal/chrome polished. We keep our items as authentic as possible. In our opinion sanding and staining a designer Mid Century piece will only diminish the value as the vintage authenticity and character is lost.
We never sell Mid Century reproductions. All of our items are 40-100 years old and in excellent condition (unless otherwise stated), however some vintage character from use should be expected. We have very high standards at Dirty Girls Restoration and take our time with every piece we sell.
