Conveniently located in Penn Quarter, Weschler's holds weekly auctions. The Weschler family has been auctioning and appraising goods in DC for over 120 years. Their specialty areas include furniture, artwork, silver, and books. Auction items vary in quality and type, but on our visits we've noticed mostly traditional furniture and artwork in decent condition. More info and photos below the jump...

Half my stuff is from the auction house I worked in for 5 years. Low and mid-level auction houses are a great place to buy, especially on off times like tax season, winter and during bad weather, and now in a crap economy. They're a fantastic resource that isn't promoted nearly enough on decorating websites - probably because decorators exploit it more than antique dealers do.
