Here's the story: In 2002, two jam-loving entrepreneurs made a few jars of apricot jam from one rare Blenheim apricot tree in California's Santa Clara Valley. They passed them around to friends and family as gifts. The response was enormous - people loved the jam, and they even got a mention in Food & Wine.

Speaking of heirloom fruits, ripetoyou.com sells wonderful citrus, including the best heirloom navels on the planet (no, really). It's not exactly buying local, but there's obviously not a local citrus source in Seattle and it's good to support farms that grow older, better tasting fruit varieties.
