As soon as the temperature outside dips below 55 degrees, I develop a case of the sniffles that lasts until about June. So — unfortunately for me — tissues are a perpetual presence in my décor.

Eeeeuuuuwww. My Dad used cloth handkerchiefs and when I would help out with the laundry, I wouldn't want to touch them. All hard and stuck together. Eeeeuuuwww!! GreatFriend on Oct 26, 2010

@slowdown: i, myself, have horrible allergies, complete with nasal polyps and sinus infections. i know what it's like to have a drippy, snotty nose. for someone who suffers from allergies, tissues are even sillier to use because it's a constant rubbing of paper on a very sensitive area. i know you've all experienced that raw under-nose area after having a cold. it's from using too many tissues. a cloth handkerchief does not do nearly as much damage.

@birdablaze: why would you even think of washing one handkerchief by itself? that would be stupid. just stick it in a load you're planning to do anyway, obviously. tissues, greener? right. just think of all the energy used to produce them.

the point is, why buy and use something you're going to use once and throw away instead of something you can use indefinitely and will work even better. it just doesn't make sense. mmq on Oct 26, 2010
