The Torpedo Factory Art Center in Old Town Alexandria was built in 1918 as a US Naval Torpedo station. The factory briefly produced torpedoes then was used as a storage facility. Since the 1970's, the factory has housed an arts center, with 82 artist studios, 6 Galleries, The Art League School, and the Alexandria Archaeology Museum.

We were roaming around the Torpedo Factory before we got married and my husband and I both stopped dead in our tracks when we got to Eric Margry's jewelry studio--he makes the exact kind of organic, hammered gold rings we'd both imagined as our wedding bands. We didn't even have to say anything--just walked in and placed an order right there.
Anyway, that makes the TF have a special place in my heart. lotusmoss on Sep 2, 2009
LOVE the TorpedoFactory! Our wedding ring sets were designed by an awesome artist there, and we had photos taken there. You can rent it for events, and at night, musicians play around the steps and on the docks out back. Water Glass Man is not to be missed! Bee T. on Sep 2, 2009
