The store I work in also sells high-end pet food, and one thing I can say is, get the highest quality food for your pet that you can afford. Do a lot of research - different things work for different animals, and stores will push whichever product they make the most money on. Just because someone who works in a store tells you a certain food is the best because it's high in protein, doesn't mean it's best for your couch potato Shih-Tzu.

Even vets will often hock the stuff that makes them money, namely Science Diet and other Hill's lines, which are stuffed full of by-products. Do you know what chicken by-product is? We're talking feathers, feet, bones and beaks. Not good stuff! SputnikSpak on Sep 3, 2008
