Those yellow containers are used in animal facilities to house lab rats and mice. The slots are where the water bottles go.
I'd be a little cautious buying old laboratory surplus - not the animal containers, except for the creep factor, but the lab benches and stools. A lot of very dangerous stuff might have been spilled on there (I'm thinking mercury specifically, but the possibilities are nearly endless). Having worked in a good number of biotech and chemistry labs, I'd give a hearty caveat emptor to anyone who buys them - and please don't use them for food prep. brenjay on May 6, 2008
