A good rugman is hard to find. We agonize over rugs with our clients and find that there are far fewer resources to choose from than for furniture. It is also made tougher by the fact that a good rug is one of the most expensive purchases you can make.

We ordered a flatweave rug from rugman and we're happy with it. Ours was in the $300 range. It has a lived-in look and has imperfections in both the weaving and the coloring. However, because this rug is old we expected this quality and in fact wanted this look- it contrasts nicely with our modern furniture. The flatweave is a thinner rug and somewhat scratchy (but feels soft on the feet)- it is not super fluffy like the hand knotted rugs. The color was also fairly accurate based on the pictures. The rug also seemed clean and doesn't smell funky. Our rug is from Iran- clearly there is some element of the unknown when purchasing an imported product like this so I can understand being hesitant. Rugman service was good- they were fast and sent us information about caring for the rug a 10% discount coupon for the next order. My husband's parents have also ordered more expensive, hand knotted rugs from rugman with success. chococat on Aug 27, 2007
