Rancho Gordo grows and sells New World foods - beans, dried spices, chiles and corn. The beans are grown in Northern California from heirloom seeds that company founder Steve Sando scavenges in trips to Latin America. If you don't eat beans like these then you don't know what you're missing. They're utterly delicious, an easy source of protein.

dear god, move along, there's nothing to see here...

beans are awful, gassy, tasteless things. i have no space for them in my kitchen.

*whew* are there only two of you left?

rancho gordo beans are like crack. i could eat a certain variety every day (not going to spill it here). i have tried soaking and not soaking and i'm going to stick with with soaking. it doesn't change the cooking time that much, however it does dramatically change the consistency of the cooking. when i soak the beans from morning until time to cook i don't find a range of cooked-ness. i soak the garbanzos less.

seriously, after rancho gordo i've become sort of obsessed, and i confess to buying beanpots (eBay) for friends and ordering another round of RG beans from steve. i think it just changed but for the last while it's been flat rate shipping, so you might as well stock up.

cut the labels off the bags, stick em to jars of your choice with clear tape and it's just so good.

I am looking for a recipe called "Gordo Beans". I got it in the 60's and have lost it. It was made with pinto beans that you cooked for six hours and added lots of cheddar cheese too. I think the beans were somewhat mashed before adding the cheese. Don't remember the other ingredients. Can anyone help me. The recipe posted here isn't the one I had. Thanks a lot.
