I have to stress that there is a very simple misconception that a few of the commeters have. Petland discounts has nothing to do, at all, with Petland (A national chain). While the conditions described are deplorable, and as a former employee I will never fully defend this chain, of the 4 stores in NJ I have worked at or set foot in, none matched the descriptions.
As a final point, Petland Discounts does NOT sell puppies or kitties, they did when I worked there take donations for the North Shore Animal League and host Vet my pet and Adoption drives for the NSAL.
Guys, Petland Discounts is not the best place ever, but it started as a single store, owned by Neil Padron, and is now a family owned business just in the NY/NJ/CT Tri-state area.
No puppy mills, becuase no puppies, same for kitten mills. There are rules against animal "culling" (Patty, our VP told us specifically that if she heard of it there would be immediate termination.). The worst animals off in a petland discounts are usually the fish, since frankly only 1/3 the staff really knows aquariums. battyone on Jan 24, 2009
