Old Town Aquarium is one of those Chicago staples that command a stop if you're walking around the neighborhood; it's a great place to stare through the window from the sidewalk whether you own fish or not. Aside from providers of saltwater fish, corals and invertebrates, freshwater fish and plants, OTA also offers classic aquariums and custom installations in homes (of all sizes). For being so famous among the fish enthusiasts, Old Town Aquarium is actually a rather small store. If you are in Old Town I highly recommend just stopping by - their tanks are just beautiful - well planted, well lit, well maintained. Their fish cost twice as much as other stores, but they are usually twice as large, healthy and have been fed properly. They also have the best selection of bettas, for anyone who wants to start out small :) None of the half dead, ragged paupers petco etc try to sell you. I've moved from Chicago since and I am yet to find a fish store with as much style and expertize as Old Town. verasue on Sep 16, 2008
