DIY fun. Want to find a lighting solution for your apartment? Want to build one yourself? Looking for undercounter lights? Looking for slim extension cords? Lighting Plus and it's two clones (one on Canal Street and one on the upper west side) are essential resources.

I'm a big fan of the Espressivo from Ikea. It's a soft bright Halogen bulb, comes in black or white, and has a great telescoping directional neck. Plus, at $6.99 it's hard to go wrong! I have one on my desk and one by my bed (though it can be a little bright to read by).

Sadly available only in stores. Sorry, Tennessee! austin on May 17, 2005

Hey, speaking of lighting, can anyone recommend a good compact fluorescent for task lighting? I like them for the energy savings, but also, in the summer, I prefer to avoid the excess heat of halogens.

I've found some decent soft warm-colored compacts, but the bright ones I've tried were way too harsh and ugly. There's gotta be a good one out there, I just can't find it!

thanks! A on May 11, 2005
