Eh.
I've had several mattresses striaght over plywood for decades and it seemed to do precisely zero harm in the way of longevity. (Despite mattress sales propaganda)
They "breath" just fine through the top, it seems to me.
I suppose in it might matter if you lived somewhere really humid all year around where water vapour might have a tougher time of disappating, or if you have tonnes of bedding over it. Fred on Feb 7, 2006
