The previous poster is absolutely correct. However, as an adoptive mom, I could not care less what the original reference of the red thread legend was. Its a beautiful story/legend and is just as applicable to adoptive families, good friends, long lost family members, etc. , as it is to lovers. Just as I celebrate St. Patty's day each year wearing green and shamrocks, and drinking green beer (Irish purists shudder at the thought) I also celebrate the luck of the ladybug.
I'm glad to see the ittybittyladybug getting a plug on this site. I've bought a lot things from the store, and absolutely love the quality and workmanship. The customer service is top-notch, as well. My daughter loves the Chinese Zodiac painting that I bought. She loves naming the animals and making their sounds. I hope everyone enjoys the store as much as I. Carannchina on Mar 30, 2007
According to Chinese folklore, a red thread connects lovers destined to meet, not parents with adopted children. And the ladybugs part is pure fiction, and has nothing to do with the red thread. The whole ladybugs connected to China adoption started as a joke in the IA China community on a listserv, that they are a good luck charm for people waiting for their referral, after one member had a terrible infestation and was pretending it was a 'sign' that referrals were impending.
