Most of us have such little free time these days that we just don't want to spend it cleaning. And, well, sometimes a really good cleaning is in order before the relatives descend for the (gasp, we're about to say the word) holidays.

Greenway called me within minutes of my posting my inquiry. The other two never contacted me. But Greenway is a great way to go. I first hired them to do my parents home, which, after 50 years of residency was getting a little funky. Now I've hired them for my house too. R. Metz on Nov 29, 2006

A San Francisco apartment kitchen floor takes under 8 minutes to scrub.

(1) Dilute liquid laundry detergent with water, about 1 to 4. You're using this detergent because it doesn't have to be rinsed off.

(2) Splash resulting liquid all over floor.

(3) Put an old towel on the floor. In your bare feet, slide around on the towel. Your body weight is greater than the pressure you can put on a stain with your arms, scrubbing, so crud comes up faster.

(4) When the floor is shiny and the towel is sopping wet, you're done.

That said, I have some fond memories of coming home to an apartment that someone else had cleaned. If your whole kitchen picks up that wonderful sticky black SF dust, there's a lot to be said for paying someone else to cope with it. wende in phoenix on Nov 7, 2006
