Even without a bargain basement, I always hit the pricey places before I shop within my actual price range. It helps me tune my eyes to the finely calibrated finish and details so that I can recognize a well executed bargain when I land at a store more within my price range.
After walking through, say, B&B Italia, almost all of the knockoffs at the lower priced stores look pretty shabby and simply fade away as possibilities. I know that if I find something that still strikes me as well finished, I am on to something. RichardinLA on Oct 28, 2008
