Embark on a remodeling project in Seattle, and you'll find Earthwise an indispensable resource for building salvage, from lumber to fixtures to furniture. We've heard nothing but praise from their customers, and judging from the community outreach and support, the feeling is mutual.

There's a bunch in the Bay Area, macguide, from the grandmother of all salvage, Urban Ore in Berkeley, more old crap than you'd believe could exist, to the semi-organized Building Resources in SF. neutopian on Jul 8, 2008

I think this is a great idea. In a recent trip to my local Salvation Army furniture store, I noticed a huge dumpster full of discarded furniture and furnishings (probably things they couldn't sell), like table tops and legs. I thought it was such a waste. At the very least, maybe the wood should be recycled for other projects. But now I know that there is such a thing as building salvage. Artichokesoup on Jul 7, 2008
