People swear by Dimitris. Aside from being the largest garden center in NYC, it should go without saying that it's a great thing to have a nursery, meaning the kind where you can buy a shrub or a tree as well as a little pot of pansies, smack dab in the middle of the city.

Dimitri's may not be cheap, but you will not get a better selection at one shop. Also, they are doing something no one else is doing in Manhattan - preserving land and running a business the old fashioned way. I was just up there and noticed a lot of changes.
